Recruiting High Performers & Potentials

Recruiting High Performers & Potentials

Talent acquisition has historically involved a combination of selling, impressions, stories, and intents. All of these actions are heavily influenced by the instincts, experiences, and emotions of both the candidate and recruiter. The candidate is attached to their career story and the recruiter has predispositions toward hiring. Both threaten the integrity and clarity that’s needed to make an intelligent and objective hiring decision.

Hiring decisions are influenced by innate human attachments, biases, and gaining real trust. Each party involved has the natural tendency to become attached to an outcome. The candidate wants the job, the recruiter wants the placement, and the hiring manager wants the business result from the new employee. With each attachment comes biases, which may tell us to look past certain red flags, ignore shortcomings, give too much credence to a strength, or oversell the culture. It may tell us that we can make compromises here and there. This ultimately results in turnover, frustration, and a feeling of failure for everyone.

In order to overcome recruitment and hiring bias, we’ve built a process that allows us to stay detached and objective in our evaluation. We start by building a different type of trust with the candidate, so they feel comfortable being vulnerable. With that vulnerability we get real answers to tough questions that most haven’t even thought about regarding their career trajectory, passions, and legacy. Navigating through the candidate’s own personal bias allows us to uncover an objective version of their experience.

We also use science and technology to help us identify and confirm that what the candidate tells us in their stories aligns with how they behave intrinsically based on their assessment and past experience results. For example, does the candidate’s behaviors match the suggested skills on their resume, and do the skills and behaviors match their stories and results?

The key to recruiting and selection is objectivity. This doesn’t simply happen because someone says they are objective – there’s a real process behind this. It culminates with one question – would we hire this person to join our team? If the answer is no, you won’t see the candidate on your team.

By this point, you may be wondering what exactly makes us different from the other recruiting firms out there. The answer – we are a sales coaching firm that has spent the past ten years coaching, studying, assessing, and researching top performers. This extensive work has given us a blueprint for understanding how these individuals think, what drives them, what scares them, and how they see the world. All of this learning is woven into our communication from start to finish.
