Have you ever noticed what happens at the end of a group dinner after the check has been paid? Everyone sits around finishing off a good night of conversation, and whatever remnants are left of the fantastic wine. Sometimes conversation trickles on and on. At some point, you start to wonder when the dinner will be officially over.

Are you the person that will politely wait for someone else to get up first and decide for the group when the evening is officially over? Re-active. Or, are you the person who takes a look at the conversational landscape, and appropriately picks your time to get up from the table? Are you the one to take the lead and rise first? Pro-active. This is how business and our economy feel right now. Not enough people are willing to push away from the table and take the lead. The dinner was great, everyone looked nice, the conversation was fun, but I’m ready to move on. How about you?
